If you know me, yes you heard correctly! If you are newly joining my journey you will discover that I am not a chef by any means. Matter of fact, I used the good ol’ Carrie Bradshaw quote, “I keep sweaters in my oven.” Okay maybe not so much anymore. Becoming a mom has really pushed my comfort levels in the kitchen and more importantly, made me more health conscious. What I feed my family is important to me. So even if I only cook a few days a week, at least those few days I want them to be filling and nutritious.
We had the same dinners all the time. My wife to this day probably can’t stand enchiladas anymore. Ha! We would get to the grocery store and I would ask, “what would like for dinner this week?” And I would be told the same five things. Yikes! So we experimented with a few new recipes. I saved the ingredients list and spend WAY too long locating the items. Not to mention some I would have to google to figure out what it was! And I’m a sharp cookie y’all! Needless to say, we needed a better system. And to our rescue came, Hello Fresh.
Hello Fresh is a delivery service that packs everything you need to cook a delicious meal! They have three plans available; A classic, a veggie, and a family plan. I chose the family plan as I wanted to be mindful of the spices for our son. Then you choose how many you’d like and for how many people (serving size) I chose for a family of 4.
A big box arrived at my door shortly after 3 P.M. clearly marked Hello Fresh and I immediately became excited! When I opened it, I was pleased to see all 3 meal ingredients were in separate boxes and clearly marked. This made storing in the fridge easier. The meats were at the bottom covered under large, flat frozen ice packs. Inside the box was also a booklet with the instructions. I was very pleased with the presentation! It was well-organized, easy and professional.
Onto the cooking like a chef!
The instructions are SO easy! It even provides you with an image with each step. The only ingredients that weren’t included were salt, pepper, water and oil. That’s it! Everything else was inside those smaller boxes! Okay so there’s usually something warming up or boiling while you prep. Prepping is about 10 minutes and the cooking about 35 minutes. Even though the first meal took me twice as long because I am the world’s slowest food cutter. Seriously the time it takes you to dice 3-4 tomatoes, I have only diced one. I don’t know why! I’m working on it! I couldn’t believe it I made those three dishes! It wasn’t complicated but it sure looked like a fancy recipe. Most importantly it tasted great! My toddler even loved it. That right there is the real stamp of approval.
Try it out for yourself! My wife and I did the math, 3 meals with Hello Fresh costs us half of what we spend on groceries anyway! Why not allow them to bring variety into our dinners, healthy options and too good to be true time saved at the store. The only thing I left for the store was your typical, milk, eggs and bread! And only because our recipes didn’t need them! Ha! I loved their service so much that I want to give you $35 off to experience it for yourself!
